5 Ways to Perform Advanced Searches With myCopernic on the Go!

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Since the release of myCopernic on the Go!, we noticed that our user could benefit from some advanced search criteria that can be used within the product. We have narrowed it down to 5 easy to use tips to help you perform advanced searches from the main search box available in myCopernic on the Go!.

  • Use the “@all” keyword or launch an empty query to retrieve everything By proceeding this way, you will be able to see the entire content of your index and all the documents contained in each category.
  • Use logical operators such as:

    • AND : retrieves documents that contain all keywords. This is the default search performed.
      Ex.: flower soil is the same as flower AND soil and retrieves only the documents that contain both flower and soil keywords.
    • OR: retrieves documents that contain either one or both keywords.
    • NOT : retrieves documents that do not contain the specified keyword.
      Ex.: flower NOT soil retrieves only the documents that contain flower but not soil.
  • Exact phrase searches: use the double quote to perform an exact phrase search.
    Ex.: “flower soil” will retrieve documents that contain exactly flower soil written in this order. This will limit the results obtained with only the relevant information you need.
  • Use field keywords: for advanced users that wish to bypass the refine fields but still want to perform refined searches. Here is a list of some of the field keywords available:

    Fields Type Values Examples
    @emailto
    @emailcc
    @emailfrom
    Text   @emailto=George

    @subject=“meeting with law firm”
    This field can only be used if the Desktop Search tool used on the queried PC is Copernic Desktop Search.

    1 = normal
    2 = high

    @taskstatus>=1

myCopernic on the Go! VS Remote Desktop

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Following the release of our last product, we wanted to highlight the advantages of myCopernic on the Go! over a Remote Desktop application. Certainly, on the Go! cannot completely replace a Remote Desktop application, but it can offer a better solution for certain needs.

myCopernic on the Go! does not let you see your whole desktop as you would with a Remote Desktop application. However, it offers you a fast way to find, preview and retrieve your files with a wide array of devices, including PC, iPhone, Blackberry and many other smartphones. It offers an enhanced interface for mobile devices and PCs so it is super easy and very quick to fetch a forgotten file from your home or office computer.

The application works as a desktop search tool, enabling you to launch searches, find the right documents, preview them, forward them and even download them to your remote device. There is no time lost connecting to your computer and browsing through your folders to find the right file and there is no lag when accessing your computer with a mobile device. All you need to do is simply login to your account with any Internet-enabled device, type in a keyword, launch the search and you’ll be accessing your files in a flash. Also, forwarding files does not use your mobile data plan; it uses your computer to send them through the email account provided in the connector settings.

To be able to get exactly what you need from anywhere so quickly is very handy when you realize you’ve forgotten a presentation on your office PC or a homework at home. Workers on the road will become more effective without having to sync their PCs and mobile devices.

myCopernic on the Go! offers peace of mind with a way to be able to retrieve your home or office files at anytime from anywhere.
